5 Good & 5 Bad about 3 websites

Contributed by Dagmar, Danny, Dimitry, Fred, and Su. Compiled together by Dimitry.
Here are the 3 websites:

Good

  • Huge amount of languages to select from
  • Lot of useful information
  • It is very functional - For example one can chose a country and find out what the issues are facing the children in that country and what can be done to help.
  • This organziations goals and how they try to achieve their goals are easily found and are throughly explained in a seperate link. Their focus areas are even divided into different groups making the website more organized.
  • Loads of information about the many different projects they undertake.
Bad

  • Too many commercials
  • Too crowded title page, with so many information.
  • The home page is crammed with links and is very distracting.
  • The "contact us" and "Support Unicef" links are hidden. There are located at the bottom left corner of the website and are in a smaller font than everything else. This makes these two important links lost in between so much other stuff on the homepage.
  • Too many ads on the left hand side.

World Health Organization

Good

  • Its is very easy to find the information and user friendly
  • Big selection of languages available
  • Simple to the point and easy to use.
  • This wesite has an extended list of health topics that "WHO" is involved in and are broke down easily in alphabetical order. They also provide a simple definition of disesases so, people could understand the dangers of them.
  • Clean and crisp design

Bad

  • Design (especially colors) is cold - it does not give the feeling of compassion
  • Lack of media tools that attract visitors of this website
  • In terms of design there is a lot of wasted space. Everything on the page is crammed on to the left side and the right side is left blank. With all that space they could at least make the font bigger, since it is somewhat difficult to read at the current font size.
  • It is hard to find a link to find information about how to join the organization and how donate money to this organization.
  • Difficult to find a way to contribute to the organization

ASPCA

Good

  • Very cute pictures on the title page - make the visitor sympathize
  • The design of the web page is very warm and friendly (e.g. colors), it perfectly matches the topic.
  • The first options(links) I noticed all involved ways to help save and protect the animals. Finding support and getting donations are the goals of the website and I beleive that there message is clear. It is very easy for people who are interestead in helping to get involved and to stay informed of current issues.
  • The ASPCA's website has an extensive section on their policies and positions on an array of subjects, which makes it user-friendly and the viewer is left no little or no questions about the organization's position on major subjects which include, but are not limited to cloning, adopting, testing on animals etc.
  • Easy to contribute to or get involved with the organization throught the website

Bad

  • Too much information on the tile page - too busy
  • The home page as well as all navigating links are very busy with picture, links, and distracting colors. Because they have used every square inch of the page the font size is very small and hard to read. Also, once you do navigate through the website there is no easy way to get back to the home page.
  • The products in their gift shop are overpriced, the same items are easily found cheaper in other websites.
  • Too cluttered. Information overload on front page. ~

We are still in the process of deciding what our NPO will focus on. We will have to decide on our topic by Wednesday, Feb. 6th's class. Please have a couple of ideas ready for class so we can get this rolling.
